Our local volunteer fire department has proved themselves again. We already knew that they’d tackle any fire, anywhere, fearlessly (and far more trained than their paid counterparts in the city!).

Last night, just before dark, we had a severe thunderstorm. Wind and rain and lightning. It seemed to stall right over us, too! Nine o’clock came and the rain had let off to a drizzle and the lightning was in the distance… so we drove up to the station. “Are we going to do this thing?” was met with cheers and much jumping up and down from the team. So we drove up and got mother, and parked in the Holiday Tours parking lot.

A few minutes later we saw the flares out in the field… and Whoooomp! Ga-BANG! went the fireworks. It was a lovely show – as it always is!! – in spite of the rain.

A big thank you to the Level Cross Volunteer Fire Department for all their hard work… and for not being afraid of a little rain!

(incidentally, their counterparts up in the city canceled their fireworks…)
