My crazy dog Lucy

Jules and Donna will remember Lucy, I’m sure.

Lucy is a 65-lb spoiled rotten white lab/springer spaniel mix. She’s a barrel of unbridled energy and sheer laziness (she likes to sleep in Ken’s recliner, feet in the air)… and a barrel of laughs too. (Well. I’m not sure Jules’ friend Mariette would agree. :D )

Anyways – she apparently likes hot and spicy things. I really didn’t know. The other day Ken and I ate at our favorite Thai restaurant in Greensboro (Thai Bangkok, near where Penny Rd, Wendover and 68 come together), and I brought the remainder of mine home. Some sort of ginger-pork-peppers concoction. When I eat Thai food, I pull the waitress aside and explain to her that I want it HOT – rip your lips off hot – not “American” hot. Waitresses get very nervous when I say this, thinking that I have no idea what hot is and will refuse to eat it when I get it. This time, the waitress put down ten stars next to my order (4 stars is considered “thai hot” to most folks)… and the restaurant delivered. I had literal blisters on my tongue and inside my lips from it.

So anyways, I finished it up today and gave Lucy the take-away box to lick (she asked!!). The cat got to it first and staggered away sneezing and meowing. Lucy just lapped it up and asked for more!

Perhaps she’s lacking tastebuds? Or sense? Who knows…

She’s not a dog, she’s a force of nature. Having a 65-lb furry ball explode into the bedroom and land on your stomach with all four feet while you’re fast asleep is … disturbing, to say the least. I’m still in therapy for PTSD ;)

    ROFL!!!

She does that to Kayti when she’s home, too – she’ll wake us all up at 4am howling to get in her bedroom (the door’s fixed now, no more explosions)… and for days after she goes back to school she still howls.

She will!! All he has to say is, “Let’s Dance” and she’ll stand up and waltz!!

I’ve taught one of the cats (Motley) a trick. I say ‘Do paws for Mum’ and make snapping motions with my fingers, and he lifts a front paw right up for me – it’s so sweet :)

Daisy thinks Lucy is weird. She spends most of her time getting exercise between naps – she sleeps in the bed, under covers, til at least 10. Then she makes her way from chair to sun-spot and then later, back to bed.

The highlight of the day is still when Daddy comes home.

I can imagine – I’ve never seen a dog more passionately in love with a human than Daisy and her Dad :)

By the way, is Trapper still around?

Yes, Trapper’s still around. He’s very sick. A couple years ago, he developed a brain tumor and the vet said, “He won’t make it til Christmas (this was in the fall). of course the vet had no idea which Christmas the cat wouldn’t make it to, as he’s still around.

The tumor swelled his poor head up, destroying one eye and making him sneeze all the time. This in turn caused the blood vessels in his ear to explode. We contemplated putting him down but decided we’d pray for him first.

His head’s been normal-sized ever since, and he’s mostly a happy cat. No sign of pain. his vision’s gone in the one eye, and we think it’s limited in the other, and his sense of smell’s gone. he’s wanting to be fed every five minutes.

We’re afraid he’s getting to the point we might have to, though, because he’s quite forgotten where the litter box is :( and is very disturbed over the food issues – plus his teeth are going and we think it’s hurting him (it’s hard to tell). It would break our hearts to put him down.

We figure he must be between 17 and 20 years old!! But he’s still our baby!!

I know – he’s a lovely puss. My old Wiggins is getting frail and skinny too – very sad :( And my Blue James was 20+ and only had a couple of teeth when he was put to sleep. We lost Minnie the tortoiseshell at Christmas so we’re down to 6 now.

Trapper, kind of reminds me of an old man in his rocking chair.
He looks around not knowing what he is doing half the time, he is always complaining about something. He wants food every five minutes. He eats soft food; he tries to rule to roost still, in the cat kingdom in the house.
He will hiss and growl at the other 2 cats, then run away from them.
I would expect, if he wore pants, that they would be pulled up over his gut and fastened right below his boobs. He already walks around moving his mouth with nothing coming out. He will lie down with his tongue hanging out. But he did this before he ever got old or sick.
Trapper was a huge cat in his day, right at 20 lbs and when he stretched out, across the bed, he was 36 inches long.
He is now a skinny old cat. He has excess flab hanging down below his stomach, when he walks; it goes from side to side.
He seems to be in good spirits for the most part. He still comes to us and loves on us and will lay down with us and greet us at the door.
Kind of like an old lovable Grandpa Simpson.

Lucy, Lucy, Lucy, what a crazy dog. She is as sweet as can be, but she has issues with herself. She thinks that she is human, but cannot understand why she does dog things. She loves to raid the trash bin that sits under the sink nightly. She takes her snout and opens the cabinet door and will rummage through the days refuse. We wake up to trash strewn all over the kitchen floor. Then when one of us call her on it, she runs and hides in the office. She will later show her face again, with her dropped down puppy dog eyes, as if to say I am sorry, I don’t know what got into me. I try to be like you, but I can’t help myself, this overwhelming desire to scratch myself in public, rummage through old stuff, lay in Dad’s recliner all day, pee outside, want food and drink all the time, love on the mommy lady (Kathi). Gee I can’t help myself ya’ll, I am sorry.
On second thought, she is very human. I think that she takes after me, these are the things that I enjoy doing as well.
    Hmmmmmm….. Oh mommy lady…..

Our lil old Daisy, what a precious sweetheart. Jules, you are right, I have never had a dog to love me as much as she does.
She still comes running out of the house every afternoon, to greet me at the car.
She has to jump in the car with me and in my lap and try to lick my face and love on Daddy. I then say to her to lets go fix Daddy’s supper and she will get down and jump out of the car and run back to the house door and wait for Daddy or Mommy to let her in and she will go to the kitchen and usually lay down under the table and wait for Daddy and Mommy to eat, then of course she catches any pieces of food that might um… accidentally get dropped her way from the table.
I will occasionally take her for a ride in the car. When I do this, I call myself Morgan Freeman, because, I am driving Miss. Daisy.
