The rain from ex-tropical storm Fay started in the middle of the night. By 6am, water was pouring in through the fan above the stove. I’ve collected over an inch of water in the bucket there. Pastor Jack says that his roof sprung a leak – right over their bed!! He’s got a mess over there.
We lost power for over an hour – tree went down up the road. Then my mother in law called saying there was a tornado warning for Level Cross.
There was actually a tornado in Randleman!! AT least, a presumed one. The weather service will determine that later. Fortunately it just knocked out a couple of outbuildings. Unfortunately it seems to have carried of someone’s pet dog!!
Other funnel clouds have been reported nearby. A trooper even got a pic of one trying to touch down in Jamestown!!
When that cell finally hit, the wind was *still* but the thunder shook the house so bad, I thought it would break the windows! Poor Daisy is still hidden under the bed shaking. I tried to hold her in my arms in case we needed to take cover, but she fought and clawed and bit so I let her go.
The bottom part of our yard, below the peach trees, is washed away, and part of our driveway looks bad, but so far that’s the only damage we’ve gotten personally. The fear now is that we’ve had SO SO SO much rain that some of our big trees might fall because the ground is mud.
The other fear is flooding – apparently it’s terribly bad in some places; people have had to be rescued from cars and homes in some places. Our house is on a little knoll so it’s not likely that any water will reach us; our creek is quite a ways away and the Polecat is down a steep hill so we should be safe in that regard.
It’s still raining and water’s still pouring in over our stove, so we’re going to go and get a bite to eat. Comfort food, definitely.
