I can’t guarantee that I was actually coming down with the flu over the weekend – but it sure felt like the way flu feels at its beginnings. I’ve had it before (and no, I do not get the flu shot!)  By Saturday morning it would have been easy to lay down and just be sick and get it over with. That’s what I used to do… what most people do. Feel sick? Well, that must be because you are sick.

A while back, God had me start declaring, “I refuse to be sick.” I have not been sick since… not so much as a sniffle until this past weekend. But I was determined that I was not going to be sick (it would have ruined the whole trip!) I don’t think Ken and Mom realized how bad I was starting to feel because I literally refused to give in to how I was feeling and I stood upon what God had given me. “I refuse to be sick.”

So I prayed and said, “OK, Lord, what are we going to do?” Upon that direction, I went off to WalMart and got Emergen-C and a bottle of zinc. Mom had Olive Leaf, a supplement she’s taken for years. And so I did the following:

  1. I refused to be sick and declared healing over myself continually.
  2. I supported my body’s natural defenses nutritionally:
    1. I drank one packet of Emergen-C every three hours. This gave me plenty of fluids plus lots of vitamins C and B.
    2. I took two zinc tablets and one olive leaf tablet, twice a day, plus my regular Melaleuca multivitamins (can’t live without ‘em).
    3. I ate generally healthy foods with a focus on protein (I was really craving steak and fish, so I focused on those foods) and on fruit/juice. By the way, if you try this, Tangerine Emergen-C is exceptionally good in both orange juice and pomegranate/acai.
  3. I continued my regular activities but budgeted time to rest through the day.

And guess what? I did not get sick. By Saturday late afternoon I felt pretty good. Woke up Sunday morning scratchy and achy, but I drank several Emergen-C packets and refused to be sick. By the time we went to church, I felt great. As long as I refused to give in to momentary feelings of sickness, and supported my body nutritionally, I stayed fine.

I have tapered off the Emergen-C; will continue twice a day for a few more days, and will take the zinc just once a day. I feel fine. I am, however, tired… so I’m going to endeavor to rest some this afternoon.
