I had a vision of a spiritual reality on Sunday, and I feel compelled to post it here. I feel like it’s a warning to some, an encouragement to others, and an illustration of the “break” many are seeing in the Church.

In the vision I saw ONE thing that was continually changing:

First it was a road (which was paved with gold)

Then it became a people-mover like you see at the airport

Then it became a river.

It started from “a ways back” (I couldn’t see its beginnings) and it went to heaven (which I could see off in the distance)

There were people in the road/conveyor/river. Most were laughing, happy, having a good time… some were simply walking or even just standing and being carried along… but they were all progressing toward heaven. Some went faster than others but this didn’t seem to be a problem for anyone; they all ended up there eventually.

(as an interesting aside that I haven’t really examined yet – the people on the road were walking. the people in the river were walking and swimming. the guys on the people-mover were standing still, but going along the fastest of them all)

I understood the road, the people-mover, and the river to be three streams of the Church. I can pretty quickly identify the river :) The other two I’m not sure I want to try to identify but I’d say one is probably conservative-evangelical denominations (like Baptists and AoG) and the other is maybe the mainline denominations? Or perhaps the river is folks who have fun along the way, the road is those who believe they should “walk it out”, and the conveyor represents the persecuted church, many of whom are making it to heaven early via martyrdom.

There were also people standing on the banks of the road/conveyor/river. They were not progressing toward heaven.

Some were mocking and jeering, hurling accusations and quoting from Bibles. They wanted the people on the way to get out and join them. Once in a while someone did; they became sad and began to mock and accuse.

Some were reading, studying, even praying… but they were on the banks and not going anywhere. They seemed to be trying hard to blend in and not be noticed.

Some were saying, “I’m not going there with you!” and pointing to this person or that person who was on the way. (unforgiveness)

Some just sat and looked sad. I perceived a real spirit of rejection and hopelessness at work; these people didn’t feel like they could join those who are on the way.

Some were wandering around, trying to find their way. They even tried to walk along the edge in the right direction but it was like they were walking in place. No progress.

And most were left behind.

People who were on the way tried to reach out to those on the banks. (the evangelist in me rose up and shouted, “Try harder! Reach further!”) Once in a while a person on the banks broke loose and grabbed a hand, or threw themselves on the road, on the conveyor, or in the river.

This is a sad spiritual truth :(
