Want some breakfast? Better than oatmeal. Better than all-you-can-eat pancakes, even. I posted the verse on Facebook a little while ago but really wanted to go ahead and post the ingredient list to go along with it… so that people would know the raw organic yummy goodness of the Word.
His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us to His own glory and excellence, by which He has granted to us His precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire. 2 Peter 1:3,4 ESV
WAIT – Does it really say THAT?
Yes, it really does say that. Let’s break it down:
His divine power [by executive order upon the HIGHEST authority]
has granted [given - and a grant is not something which must be repaid]
to us [that'd be God's children - me, and I hope you too]
all things [all... it really does mean ALL]
that pertain to life and godliness, [no evil here - Daddy gives good gifts to His kids! Do you need something for life? Do you need something to live godly? It's all there for you!]
through the knowledge [knowing... really, really knowing... intimate knowing... a similar word was used in the Septuagint in Genesis when it says "Adam KNEW Eve"]
of Him [oh GLORY He is AWESOME - we're talking about the Creator of all things - He who is worthy worthy worthy holy holy HOLY]
who called us [yes, us... all of us... many are called, few choose to be chosen]
to His own glory and excellence, [oh MY does it really say that, yes it does - we are called to His glory and His excellence - His glory and excellence are a part of our inheritance in Christ!! (Since this is a big pill for most Christians to swallow, see also Romans 8:17 and John 17:22)
by which He has granted to us [granted - not loaned with expectation of repayment, nor given based upon performance]
His precious and very great promises, [what has God promised? Every promise is yes! and amen! (2 Cor 1:20). Every precious promise. Ours.]
so that through them [through the EXPERIENCE of the promises... through the RECEIPT of their fulfillment]
you may become partakers of the divine nature, [:boom: there it is. koin?nos - a partner, associate, comrade, companion, or sharer in anything. God wants us to eat of Him - and become His partners - His co-laborers - His associates - His comrades - His friends - His companions - the ones He shares all things with - His sons. The ones who are like Him.]
having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire. [Think you're a sinner saved by grace? Think again - it's simply untrue. Jesus provides the avenue of escape - full escape - from the corruption of sin. Think of it this way - you were a prisoner, rotting away in a jail cell. The judge pardons you and totally nullifies your sentence: you are freed. Do you spend the rest of your life calling yourself a prisoner? That would be absurd - so why, if you're saved and freed from the bondage of sin, do you still call yourself a sinner?]
He is so good – and He wants to share that goodness with you – and He wants you to share that goodness with others – isn’t that the most glorious thing you’ve ever heard?
