The talking heads on my TV set are nattering on about oil at $200 a barrel and $5.25 a gallon for gas…

of course this is a self-fulfilling prophecy. They speak it so the oil co’s feel they can do it.

What if Fox, CNN, NBC, CBS & BBC all ganged up and reported the cost of oil falling dramatically… gas will be $2 a gal by Memorial Day?

What if?

Betcha prices would fall the next day…

Do you like contests? How about a contest to win a Nintendo Wii? How about bidding on high speed internet for life? Sound crazy? It’s not! Go and register for your chance to win a Wii!! You must have a valid email address to enter… so if you don’t have one, just go create one at gmail or yahoo!! The winner gets everything they need to start playing the Wii:

And get this (how’s this for innovative marketing? It might be an idea for a church to cooperate with a business to do this…hmmm….)

If you live in Charter Internet territory (which is a big chunk o’ country) you can bid on Charter High-Speed Internet for life. (verify if you do by zip code). Bids start at $10 and they haven’t put a reserve on it… who knows what it will go for?? I know I pay about $240 a year for (low) high-speed net…If I maintain DSL at this price for the next 50 years, it’ll cost me $12000!!!! Now imagine paying just once. Go enter the bidding!!

I just ran across a company called Uplogix. They offer network security, virtual administration, secure management of your network, and persistent secure connectivity. This is for computer networks that span multiple locations. Uplogix sells an appliance called Envoy, which offers these services even when the primary network connection is down or unavailable (it sounds too good to be true, but they’re serious!). Their services reduce the cost and complexity of managing a large network. Check them out!

I just talked to someone on the phone that I’ve known online for quite a long time. It was great to talk to such a kindred spirit. It’s rare that I can say something like, “So-and-so fell out in the Spirit at church last night” without getting an awkward pause (or worse). I so enjoyed talking with her about matters of faith!!

The reason she called was partly to tell me more about an opportunity that she and her husband are undertaking. God laid on their hearts not that long ago, and it is paying off already in a grand way. I’m blessed because they’re blessed! God is performing a miracle there.

I’m not going to say much more about this right now, other than Ken and I are going to very prayerfully consider doing this. I should be getting more information on it tomorrow. If it works the way I think it works, it could absolutely revolutionize our lives. Just being able to pay bills would be GREAT… but the way my friend is talking, it might do much more than that. (and for anyone concerned, no – it’s not MLM or anything like it.)

As an aside, it was prophesied to us back at the turn of the year that God would bring about a financial turn-about to us in February.

I’m about to put the van up for sale. We bought it because I needed to transport the wheelchair; now I don’t need to! And I really don’t need to seat seven people anymore, either. I’d like to buy a cheap-but-good, economical little car.

So I run across Mystic Motors. They bill themselves as a place to buy used cars off eBay. {Buy Used Car} Personally, I think a used car is a much better investment than a new one… I can’t see myself buying a new car even if I hit Publisher’s Clearinghouse or something. :D

I’ve heard good and bad about eBay motors… I know a couple of people who’ve bought cars with excellent results. But I also saw on People’s Court one time (ok, so I was in bed sick!) a guy who’d bought a car which was a lemon, and he wanted to get his money back but he had, of course, bought the car “as is”. No luck for him.

On the plus side, the Mystic Motors site is fairly easy to use. A couple of clicks and you’re looking at cars. They seem to all be from private sellers (given that they are located all over the country) rather than on a lot. This makes it a bit easier, if you want to examine the car in person rather than taking the seller’s say so. One thing I liked is that many of the cars have a vehicle history report available. This is similar to CarFax but it comes from Experian.

On the down side, Mystic’s main site is full of typos. That alone makes me suspicious of them. They also only list a mailing address on their contact form. There doesn’t seem to be a way of reaching a human being via telephone or email. That made me say hmmm.

So – I might poke around a little and see if I find a car that I like, and watch to see how to auctions go and what sellers get as feedback on their cars. And I might consider putting the van up for sale on eBay, too :)
