Friends, I just started a GREAT new home business.

Why?

Ken and I know that God has called us into full-time ministry. Like the Apostle Paul (who made tents while travelling and ministering), we need a stable source of income. This is why Ken has worked a full-time job all these years, and I have supplemented our income with freelancing. Ken’s work leaves him so tired, it’s hard for him to switch gears to ministry at the end of the day. I’ve been looking for a business we could grow and eventually work together, that wouldn’t drive either of us crazy, and that is portable – I want to be able to work from home, from Starbucks or Caribou, from the road, or even from Jamaica!

I finally found it – and Ken agreed that it’s an excellent opportunity.

A few days ago, John Burton* of the Pray the Revolution blog told me about the opportunity that he and Amy have embarked on. There’s no selling, no inventory, no customer service nightmares… it’s a simple referral-based marketing program for health, wellness, and home products. **  The company’s been around for years and I’ve used their products before, at a friend’s house… good stuff.

The basic premise is that we buy products we’d be buying at Sam’s or Wal-Mart anyway, at around the same price we’d pay there. (Things like vitamins, laundry soap, toothpaste, mineral makeup, floor cleaner) The products are 100% guaranteed, plus they’re good for us and the environment.

Then we tell other people to do the same. That’s it! It’s really that simple.

Yes, it’s “sort of” like MLM, but it’s really more like affiliate marketing. MLM’s expect you to sell sell sell, stock inventory, give samples, and sacrifice your firstborn. With this company, literally, all you do is sign people up to buy the same great products you’re buying. They, in turn, tell more people***. And you get paid for doing it! This company, by word of mouth alone, sold something like 850 million dollars last year- I’d say they’re doing something right!

John just got started and within a couple of days has nearly advanced to the next level. The person who signed him up started two months ago, is now making $1000 a month, and will soon advance to making more. The program is incredible, it’s easy, and there’s no gimmicks.

Want more information? Visit my new business page or shoot me an email.

*Regular readers of this blog will remember the great review I gave John’s book, “Twenty Elements of Revival.” John and Amy are sold-out lovers of the Lord and all-around GREAT people.

** NO! It’s NOT Amway! ;)

*** You don’t HAVE to market the company – you can just sign up and buy fantastic products for your own family, if you’d like. But by telling just a few people and signing them up, too, you can earn enough cash to render your purchases free!

I’m always looking for ways to get better organized, and I try to intersperse my sometimes-heavy posts here

with tips and tricks for home and office management. Today I want to talk about the Dymo labeler. I’ve owned one for a couple of years and use it for just about everything. Today I found a website that talks about using the Dymo for back to school.

The site lists some obvious and not-so obvious uses for the labels. Some of the ideas are adaptable to home or work, and even Scripture memorization (how about that??!!)

Check this out – use your Dymo (and appropriate label tape) to:

  • Label<a href=”http://global.dymo.com/enUS/TipsAndAdviceCategory/Back_to_School_Time.html”>File folders</a> and kids’ school folders
  • Put name tags in gym, daycare, or camp clothes
  • label and customize lunch boxes
  • use magnet tape to create words or numbers that can be manipulated – great for vocabulary, math, Scripture memory – and even games!
  • Ensure the return of books, toys, games, sports equipment, gym bags, cell phones, and tennis shoes

Around the house, I use labels on everything from freezer items to videos and DVD’s. I’m about to create names for all of my spice jars in the kitchen. When I organized the office, all of my file folders got labels from the Dymo too – much easier to read than my handwriting!! (I write worse than most doctors). I’m also fixing to organize all of my craft stuff (I have an entire floor-to-ceiling bookshelf filled with boxes of stuff for mixed-media art) – I’ll be labeling the outside of the boxes, and then using smaller containers inside to corral the thousands of tiny items I have like beads, sequins, pieces of eggshell, and a huge assortment of fibers.

I like the fact that the labels give a very consistent look to any project!

Kayti’s also ready to go back to college in a few days, and she’ll be using labels to identify her belongings, label folders, and keep herself organized. She and her roommates tend to share stuff, and she ended up coming home with a few things that aren’t hers. If they’d been labeled with the Dymo labeler, they’d have gone home with the right roomie!

Spark!

SocialSpark is a sort-of-like Pay Per Post on steroids. PPP’s premise was, “find an advertiser, and if you and they are compatible, write about their stuff. Get paid.” In fact, PPP is paying me to write this bit on Social Spark (same folks run both sites). Kind of cool, eh?

Social Spark’s for-public website is good. The only thing I’d change is the light gray background. Makes it hard to read. Once you get signed up (EASY) and logged in, the site is very, very busy. Lots of stuff, including stuff that moves. I know it’s cool to have Flash and all, but come on, guys… it’s not that cool.

Other than those minor annoyances, SS is a rather good way for bloggers to make a few extra bucks (no one’s getting rich off this but it does pay the hosting fees and then some). It’s a great way for advertisers to promote their stuff, too. Social Spark has a code of ethics requiring bloggers to disclose that they’re being paid, bloggers may only post on things they know, everyone sees what everyone’s doing, and MOST IMPORTANT, posting with Social Spark won’t trash your google pagerank because they use nofollow in their links. Awesome!

I haven’t really done much lately with either PPP or Social Spark, but I plan to. You should too! If you’re interested in Social Spark, just sign up from their main page.

I just talked to someone on the phone that I’ve known online for quite a long time. It was great to talk to such a kindred spirit. It’s rare that I can say something like, “So-and-so fell out in the Spirit at church last night” without getting an awkward pause (or worse). I so enjoyed talking with her about matters of faith!!

The reason she called was partly to tell me more about an opportunity that she and her husband are undertaking. God laid on their hearts not that long ago, and it is paying off already in a grand way. I’m blessed because they’re blessed! God is performing a miracle there.

I’m not going to say much more about this right now, other than Ken and I are going to very prayerfully consider doing this. I should be getting more information on it tomorrow. If it works the way I think it works, it could absolutely revolutionize our lives. Just being able to pay bills would be GREAT… but the way my friend is talking, it might do much more than that. (and for anyone concerned, no – it’s not MLM or anything like it.)

As an aside, it was prophesied to us back at the turn of the year that God would bring about a financial turn-about to us in February.

I just read on another site that any time you link to an advertiser’s site (as in a Pay per Post review), you should use nofollow.

Now to figure out how to do it…
